Stop Beating the Same Damn Dead Horse
“You may not see it today or tomorrow, but you will look back in a few years and be absolutely perplexed and awed by how every little thing added up and brought you somewhere wonderful - or where you always wanted to be. You will be grateful that things didn’t work out the way you once wanted them too.”
How many of you can look back on the past 1, 2, 3, 4, or even 5 years and see how far you have come? Or...flip it...and see how you haven’t grown, or changed?
Change used to be in the top 5 of my worst fears.
Looking back on the past few years, my life has DRASTICALLY changed. I can focus on the bad.. I’ve quit a job, with benefits that had helped support my family. That was a steady paycheck I could count on. I’ve lost a friend. And I’ve stayed quiet, and haven’t spoken my mind.
Or...I can focus on the positive...I’ve quit working in a job that didn’t serve me. I now am now pursuing my career as a Hairstylist. I’ve traveled twice in one year to my happy place, California. Once for fun, and once to further my career and continue my education. I’ve joined a tribe of women and a few men who support me unconditionally, and give it to me straight, regardless if I want to hear it or not. And I’ve found my voice. I no longer focus on the thoughts of others. I’ve chosen to live my life unapologetically, as ME.
It’s a scary scary thing to a lot of people.
But without change...there would be no growth.
Without change we remain stagnant.
And when we remain stagnant...that means we’re stuck in the same old rut. In the same old bad habits. Holding the same old grudges. Beating the same damn dead horse.
Growing and changing is how we become who we are meant to be. Hard times can either push us to be better. Or they can crush you, and hold you down, and turn you into someone you don’t even like.
You are the only person who can decide to become the best version of yourself.
No one is going to do it for you.
Propel yourself forward.
Buckle down, figure out what sets your soul on fire, and WORK FOR IT.
Set goals. And CRUSH them!
But most of all...challenge yourself to change.
Change for the better.
